God and Faithfulness

Last night I started a new series on Esther. She is a great character study, especially because I love ancient near east history, and Esther is full of history. And intrigue. And my favorite literary device, irony. Esther teaches us a lot in its short story. For one, God provides providentially. His hand is constantly working behind the sense of our lives. Another is that God uses our faithfulness. Many times I think we miss that. Mordicai said to Esther that she was married to the king for Such A Time As This. We are living in days that call for great faithfulness. Tonight as I listened to the President talk about the loss of jobs and the economic crisis, I thought about the troubles that have faced God’s people in years past, and how He has always been there for us, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”

Reconnecting

I just spoke with a friend from high school. Tracy was my best man at my wedding and certainly someone I will always consider a part of my life. I spoke to him for about an hour, after not hearing from each other for several years. It was a lot of fun and reminds me of two proverbs.
